Address: Mangalajodi Eco Tourism, Mangalajodi, Odisha, India
How to go: This place is 75 kms away from Bhubaneswar on the banks of Chilka Lake and around 50 kms away from Khurdha road. One has to hire a car or an auto rickshaw from the railway station. I did not find any local transport to go there.
Pros: Bird watcher, bird lover, bird photographers' heaven.
Cons: Nothing such. As this is a proper birding area and you can't expect anything else from here. Still some food stall and toilet is there for any emergency.
What to visit ? Mangalajodi Eco Tourism mainly.
Company: Bird lovers
Minimum day/time to visit: 1
Locality: Village
Expenses: www.mangalajodiecotourism.com
More Information: Mangalajodi is a part of Chinka Lake, Odisha which is a similar Oxbow lake like Purbasthali, WB but the area is more vast than that. Here you have to go and hire the boat and the cost is nominal. They take around 300 and we were total 4 person in a boat. We have seen those tourist boats accommodates max 4 persons only.

Anyways there will be one boatman who will handle the gear (through a bamboo), this looks very unique and there will be a guide who will show the tourist all the birds and let them know about those. They give around 3 hours per trip.

This place is very much known for migratory birds which arrive on winter. Even though we have visited in February still we have got various types which i have shared in gallery.

The weather of Mangalajodi is very pleasant and welcoming. Boats contain shades on upside and you will never feel so irritated due to the movements of breeze around you. You can take dry foods with you but must carry sufficient drinking water. You will find few shops on the bank who sells dry foods like cake, biscuits, tea, omelette etc.

Do

  • Be communicative and friendly with your guide.

Don'ts

  • Do not shout loud.
  • Do not create mess with any birds as they take rest and search food most of the time. They might get disturbed.
  • Do not feed them any food. Let them catch their own.
