Bhitarkanika, OdishaBhitarkanika Nature Camps - Dangmal

Jan,2021
Address: PVP9+FQ Bhitarkanika, Odisha
How to go:

For Bitarkanika, nearest railway station is Bhadrak. From Bhadrak, Chandbali is approx. 55 km by road. Road condition is pretty good. From Chandbali we have taken boat (For that we contacted an agent named Susojit Pani +91 8249543935, which took us Dangamal within 4 and half hours. If you booked your accommodation in Dangamal, that is the best option for you.

You can also plan to stay in Gupti, which is around 82 km by road. Gupti means you have already entered Bhitarkanika for long. From there you can visit Dangamal by motorboat or you can stay there itself or you can move to Habalikhati (another exclusive destination of Bhitarkanina)

Pros: Thankfully you will get mobile network of Airtel or Jio. in Dangamala. The boat ride is awesome and adventurous.
Cons: Nothing such I found
What to visit ? Bitarkanika nature camp, Bhitarkanika mangrove forest, Crocodile firm
Company: Friends and family, Birders
Minimum day/time to visit: 2 days full
Locality: Village
Expenses: Rs. 3500.00 + GST(Per Suite Per day), 3/4 can stay in a suit including food. Breakfast complimentary
More Information:

Bhitarkanika is a very popular destination in Odisha, this is also known as mini Mangrove of Odisha. If you compare with Sundarbans of West Bengal or Bangladesh it is very small. But my logic is who can visit the entire Mangrove? No one has that permission nor one can visit the entire area. So whatever Bhitarkanika is giving, it is more than enough for a traveler or explorer. The bio-diversity it shows, a nature lover will be stunt while exploring. Ample number of deer and salt water crocodile can be seen here and there, same as birds. As Estuary of Bhitarkanika is a bit less wide compare to Sundarbans, most of the time you will enjoy the beauty of Mangrove.

Stay

Either you stay in Gupti, or Chandbali or Dangamal. As we have run from Chandbali to Dangamal we found Aranya Nivas (OTDC) in road side location opposite to Chandbali ferry ghat. In Dangamal there are few guest house, between those we stayed in Bhitarkanika Forest Guest House which you have to book through www.ecotourodisha.com/ website. There are few other guest houses like Dangamala Nature Camps, Bhitarkanika, Nature Camp Bhitarkanika Retreat, Aranya Nivas etc.

Dangamal has the most animals, such as crocodiles, deer, Indian grey Languor, Wild boar, Porcupine, Otters and many more, and this is also an Interpretation Centre of Bhitarkanika. In Bhitarkanika Forest Block, walk around 4-km-long path via thick forests, meadows, creeks and lotus ponds. You can also visit ruins of a hunting tower at the end and an old Shiva temple. The new watchtower offers panoramic views. Bhitarkanika, a nesting site for about 30,000 birds. You also can book the boat from Khola which takes you to the confluence of Baitarani and Brahmani rivers.

Bhitarkanika Forest Guest House

A very well known and standard guest house which has been maintain by eco tourism Odisha, is covered with huge area along with Mangrove forest, ponds, wetland and dry land, having some specific number of accommodation which can only be booked via www.ecotourodisha.com/. Inside the campus you will find vast bio diversity, few lands are totally covered with lush Mangrove, you can take a walk through the jungle. In some other places you will find few ponds, lots of trees, and some small lakes for breeding Crocodile and research purpose. Inside the campus you will find deers are roaming freely as this land is a continuation of jungle. Beware of Indian Grey languor, those can snatch anything from you in search of food. They have a small Crocodile museum where they have collected skulls and bones of various animals for decade. This land is full of various birds like Indian Paradise Flycatcher, Brown Winged Kingfisher, Common Iora, Monarch, Woodpeaker, Cuckoo Shrike, Nightjar, Owls and many more. If you are interested in birding you can manage few caretakers by giving small amount of money, they will guide you to find birds. This land is also very famous of Fishing cats. By the help of local people you can have a tour at night for fishing cats. All you need to get information from caretakers where and how will you get to see those animals and birds. Frankly Dangamal is so beautiful place you need to spend at least 3 days at a time.

Motorboats around 5–20 seater can be hired from Chandbali, Gupti and Khola to reach Dangamal. We have booked from Chandbali. The government-run boats are approx. 1,800 rs plus fuel for smaller boats and approx. 2,500 rs plus fuel for 20-seaters. Private boats cost ₹ 2,500–5,000.

Food

In Chandbali you will get roadside food shop and hotels. But if you start your journey early morning from Chandbali, you will not get running shops open, but you can get good quality tea and some dry snacks. Better you take food with you.

Next option after Chandbali, you will get food from the permit jetty of your boat that is in Khola. you are allowed to get down from the boat for few minutes and get food which are available there (Limited stuffs like chips, biscuits etc.). If you search there you will get small hotel for lunch. From Chandbali it takes around 2.5 hours to reach Khola jetty ghat.

Next is your destination, I will suggest take main food from Bhitarkanika Forest Guest House as you have already paid for it (for those who booked forest guest house), not for the reason that you will have no other option but the quality they serve and the service they provide are too good.

Buddy, your exploration level is just superb and a bundle of fantastic photographs have enriched this vlog. One would definitely wish to visit it once at least after going through your information. However, I found "how to go" tab empty, have a look. Rest is saturated with important information for the travellers.
