More Information: | Serampore can be a short day trip for an explorer. Being a very old city it has got lot of elements to explore. Even though one cannot visit Serampore for a single day and cover it all as there are different elements which can be accessible in different season. So at least you have to visit 2 different times to cover those up. Well, there are Serampore Rajbari and Guru Bari which you can say heritage and those are more than 300 years old constructed mansions. So both can be explored well during Dashera season. Members of those mansions organised Durga Puja during October mostly in Navaratri time and that is the only time when people from outside get access to get into those mansions.. so you can say that can be a season to visit Serampore. Well this time you can also visit Jagannath ghat and Surki Tala ghat both. These are the two ghats besides Hoogly rivers and both have got some unique elements to be experienced. In Jagannath ghat there is a big old gateway along with two Shiva temples standing around it. Those temples has got some terracotta work which has been almost lost now a days. It has a ferry ghat to cross the river. It has got a cremation area which has got an Smasan Kali temple adjacent to it. Unlike others Smasan Kali this idol is entirely different by its looks. Another ghat is Surki tala ghat which is around 700 m away from this ghat. One can easily cover those by walking. In Surki tala ghat there are 3/4 temples together. It has got one huge and old peepul tree in front of the entrance. The entire ambience is pretty much peaceful and isolated from the crowd. The entire area is full of big trees along with temples. Local people come here to take bath or worship in this place. One must visit these two ghats of Serampore. Well there are famous Mahesh Jagannath temple which is remains open everyday. Nearby one can find the very famous Mahesh Chariot kept aside on the road. So here comes the story of another season. As you all know Mahesh rath yatra is way more famous in West Bengal. So one must come during rath yatra to see the possession and experience the festival. It held during July, so be notified. If you want to explore more you are highly appreciable because there are many more across the city, you have to just spend time and visit the place. Well there are no issue with communication. One can reach Serampore by train which is the most convenient way to reach I believe. Then you can take toto to visit different destinations also you can walk to visit those all. I bet you won’t regret. |
