More Information: | Sir Pompayya Malemath, an incredible personality from Hampi, is an epitome of nature conservation and wildlife lover. I feel he is the best bird watcher guide not because I hired him as a guide but I spent 3 days with him, try to know him deeply in respect to his intentions towards nature and wildlife. Also came to know him as a person who wants to be into a group of people who are active, non-commercial and work together for conservation of nature. He is also actively associated with Daroji nature camp which runs by Government of Karnataka with a collaboration of forest department of the state. This video is to let you know about a person from his root which I bet will inspire you if you are a true nature and animal lover. I wish you will watch the entire video deeply connecting yourself with nature. In brief: In earlier age Hampi was in my bucket list due to ruins heritage of Vijayanagara empire. That time i did not know Hampi is also famous for endemic bird species. As the time passes by, I added my interest into bird watching and there was a calling I never wanted to miss. So I decided to go there in March 2024 with one of my birder friends. It was a full 2 days (48 hours) tour. Generally people go somewhere as per check in and check out timing of their stay. In our case bird watching started from day 1 dawn and ended in day 2 dask. It was a drastic bird watching session we have gone through and obviously we get the best out of it. Malemath Eco stay: Pompayya sir has 2 non a/c eco cottage in his property which comes under a single storey building. Each room accommodates max 5/6 people at a time. That's why he prefered group of people to visit. Except these two room there is a big hall cum dining room where he set up few more single beds along with his own tent placed in the middle. A new building construction is going on beside the existing stay which will have few more rooms in upcoming days. He has 2/3 acres of land which he converted from barren to lust green forest with natural ecosystem. in both front and backyard. He also has two small ponds which does the perfect balance of ecosystem. He also has a hide inside his campus which is abandoned now a days due to road side disturbance. In his forest he planted countless trees for different purpose. Once you go there you will feel his effort. Package covered: in 2024 for a group of 2 person, per day per person charge 4500 INR including (3 time food, accommodation, fuel of car for local birding, night birding, Daroji nature camp hide ), for Daroji sloth bear for a group of 2 person 2500 INR. It will vary for more or less people. Basically for Daroji sloth bear sanctuary they provide 8 seater camper, so if you are 2 people only then they have to think about the fuel cost which is pretty logical. For 3 people charge may change to 2000 INR for Daroji sloth bear sanctuary. From Daroji nature camp from where you need to do permit for bear sanctuary, camper starts from there and it is 11 km through forest and barren land. So total 22 km up and down. Transport: Pompayya has a small car, which accommodates 4 people, which he takes for local birding. Food: Well, Pompayya sir provides delicious homemade food which is cooked by his wife. Lunch and dinner generally happens in home. For breakfast sometimes he manages food from local shops which are pretty remarkable, hygienic and authentic. He told those particular shops run by village people whom he considers his stakeholders and he wants to promote them for their good work and good collaboration with him. |
