More Information: | Hornbill Festival is one of the most famous cultural festivals in the world. It has been held for 10 long days (Mostly 1 to 10th December) in Naga heritage village, Kisama. In this fair ground one will be very much surprised to explore various cultures and tradition of Naga people. There are almost 14 different tribes will perform for those days. Except that there are 10 more mixed tribes who comes from various villages of Nagaland and perform in front of huge audience who come from various parts of world. The festival starts from 9 am and goes on till 10 pm. Every day the organizer schedules some different act for each tribes which includes dancing, singings, playing instruments, live concert, food festival, art and crafts etc. Everything happens in the same heritage village. Heritage village:This is basically a huge fair ground where they segregate the area of interest with a specific cluster. Once you enter to the campus you will find nursery on the left, then you will find handloom at the same side... Opposite on the right side you will find huge art and crafts market.. On the straight you will find the main cultural festive ground where most of the performances are being done. Adjacent to that they install Morong (Traditional hut) ground where they prepare traditional food and serve it. There are also few road on the hill which passes through on part of heritage village. Morong:One of the most incredible thing of this festival is Morong. Morong is traditional hut of Naga tribes. Each tribe decorate their hut inside as well as outside with their daily usable stuffs just to show people their culture. A couple they arrange from their tribe who stand and welcome you wearing traditional clothes. Theo also prepare traditional food items inside the hut and display so that you can buy and eat. Someone will be there to explain the specialty of their tribe. If you wish to explore their culture you have to give 2/3 days to get to know them very well. Food price is not at all high. I must suggest you to have rice beer from them. You will love to have it by bamboo made container or glass they provide. You cannot smoke openly around the morong, that is their rules. Stay:There are many homestay in Kisama as well as Zakhama city. But one of the best among those is Dawn homestay, i strongly recommend. This homestay owned by Ms. Rovitono, a well known and most humble woman from Kisama. The homestay will attract by it's simplicity and authenticity. Most importantly the homestay is 1.7 km away from the hornbill festival ground. A simple by very beautiful homestay with lovely food and prime location.
