More Information: | Brief: - Let's not talk about the history, 'cos you can find it to Wikipedia. Just to get a clear idea of Khajuraho temples, I must mention the entire Khajuraho temples are divided into 3 parts 1. Western , 2. Eastern, 3. Southern on which Western is pretty much famous and well maintained. Most of the local people and visitors hop around this complex. In festive times like Dasherra, Shiv Ratri local people assembled in this part of temples. All 3 parts of temples are situated around 2 km away from each other. Yes for family groups, it is not a good idea to reach every part by walking. But if you hire car, you can easily visit all parts in a single day. Western: In Western ghat there are main 5 big temples inside and 3/4 others small temples scattered here and there. The entire premises is very well decorated. Even if the main gate is closed you can still take pictures from outside but to be very frank don't dare to miss visiting inside anyhow. There will be security check in the main entrance. This is good to know that camera is allowed inside and no charges will be applicable for that. There are 5 main temples, 1. Biswanath Temple, 2. Laxmana temple, 3. Kandariya Mahadev Temple, 4. Jagadembi temple, 5. Chitragupta Temple. There are few small temples too.. 1. Laxmi temple, 2. Baraha Temple etc. Temples are made of solid golden or black rocks and its amazing structures and the sculptures and mythological figures makes people think how can those be man made !! People will find various Kamasutra posture of human in the wall of temple. If you take guide they will explained you well. The temple gate is being opened in 8 o'clock in the morning in normal days and in Dasherra the timing gets changed into 6 o'clock. Entry fee is 40 rs per head and for local devotees it is free. Eastern: There are two well maintained temple in Eastern ghat, 1. Javari Temple, 2. Vamana Temple You will not be asked for ticket if you keep the previous one which you have collected from Western ghat. The distance between two temples is 200 m approx. Southern: Most of the tourists miss this temple. But you should not. This is Duladeo Shiva Temple. The architecture of this temple is a bit different yet amazing. Needless to say, compound of this temple is well maintained. If you still have more energy in the same day, you can visit Jain temple nearby. Most of the hotels you will find nearby Western ghat. |
