| How to go: | From NJP railway station take the over bridge from drivers end, if you are coming from Sealdah, by which you can pass the railway track and move opposite of 1 no platform, more preciously heading east will be the direction. Go extreme end and step down. You can hire toto or ride share jeep for Gajoldoba. It is around 25 km. Share jeep will take around 25 rs. |

| More Information: | Gajoldoba, apart from birding, is a beautiful joint for weekend destination adjacent to Teesta. The river is quite vast here and the barrage above it a gateway of Dooars range of North Bengal. If the weather remains very clear, you can get the view of Kanchenjunga from there. Boating in Teesta is the hottest attraction for everyone. It creates a market ground in the evening specially in weekend. Based on that it fills up with crowd. stay A few resort and cottages are built up based on the barrage. Most of the time birders book less expensive cottages as their main motive is birding, on the other side whoever go to Gajoldoba for travel purpose they book lavish or more expensive lodges. Except that there are Youth hostel, Eco cottage, Bhorer Alo (Govt) which can be booked. Location and amusement basis Bhorer alo can be recommended. Activity There are no such activities for this destination except boating and birding. So it can be done within 2 days. For both birders and travelers you can divide your itinerary in two parts. One day you enjoy boating and sunset. Also join evening market on the fair ground. Another day you visit Baikunthapur forest for a change. Food There are few hotels and food stalls available on the market ground. You can visit and choose stalls or hotels for lunch or dinner. All the hotels produce more or less same kind of food and their quality is more or less same, which are good basically. It is better to take thali from them instead of biryani, roll and other junks. Must try Boroli fish which has been collected from Teesta by the local fishermen. The taste of this fishes are too good if those are fresh. Other than that rice, veg, chicken or others fish items are good too. Boatman There are 2/3 renounced boatman in Gajoldoba. Respectively they are Ratan, Thakur, Arun. They take initiative to manage other 15 boatmen and when there are huge rush they decide how to divide tasks among them. Knowledge basis 5/6 boatmen are too good to identify birds and their activities. Others knows it all but not like the experienced one. So choose your boatman wisely. Birds Due to the huge flock of migratory birds availability this area become a hotspot for bird watchers. Specially in season i.e. November to February this place creates huge crowd for bird watchers across India. Birds like various raptors, owls, waders and ducks collections can be found this area.
