More Information: | Ennore Port, officially known as Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL), is a major port located on the east coast of India, in the state of Tamil Nadu, near Chennai. It holds a special place in India’s maritime history and development due to its strategic importance, modern infrastructure, and unique management structure. It is not at all a visiting place but if you are a adventure lover you will love visiting this place. Must carry camera. Thalankuppam Pier can be the best attraction and I mainly went there for this particular thing. Nearby Kasimedu port, boat making harbor along with Ennore sunset will give you an extraordinary experience. Bring food and water with you and you must go there by private car. Even though I have gone there by public bus, as an explorer I would say I made the best memory out of it but if you are visiting with family must take care with respect to transport you choose. History & Establishment Commissioned: 2001 Developed by: Government of India Reason for Creation: To decongest the Chennai Port, which was facing heavy traffic. Unique Feature: It is India’s first corporatized major port, run as a company under the Companies Act, 1956. Initially established as Ennore Port Limited, it was renamed Kamarajar Port Limited in 2014, in honor of K. Kamaraj, a prominent leader and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. |
