Least Concern

Length about 10–12 cm; weight ~6–10 g. Tiny, short-tailed warbler with streaked brown upperparts and pale underparts.

Mostly resident throughout its range in South and Southeast Asia, Africa, and parts of southern Europe. Local movements may occur with seasonal grass growth.

No major long-distance migration; local dispersal may occur depending on wetland or grassland conditions.

Typically June to September in South Asia, coinciding with monsoon season when grass is dense for nesting.

Builds a cup-shaped nest with grass and spider silk, often hidden in tall grass or small shrubs. Clutch size 3–5 eggs. Female primarily incubates, and chicks are fed by both parents.

Prefers open grasslands, paddy fields, marsh edges, and wetlands with dense low vegetation. Often found in areas with short to medium-height grasses for nesting and foraging.

Primarily insects, such as grasshoppers, beetles, and caterpillars. Feeds mostly within grass or low shrubs, gleaning prey from foliage or capturing small invertebrates on the wing.
