| Approximate size(adult): | A very small woodpecker species measuring 9–10 cm in length and weighing around 8–10 g. It has olive-green upperparts, a barred underside, and fine white spotting on the head. The male has a small yellow or rufous forehead patch.

| Resident/ Migrate from: | A resident species across much of South and Southeast Asia, including the Himalayan foothills, Northeast India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, southern China, and northern Thailand.

| Breeding season: | Breeding typically occurs from March to July. Both sexes excavate a small cavity nest in dead wood or soft branches, often 1–3 m above ground. The clutch generally consists of 3–4 eggs.
