| Approximate size(adult): | About 14–16 cm in length. Males have a bright ruby-red throat bordered by a white line, with brown upperparts and whitish underparts. Females are dull brown with a faint buff throat.

| Resident/ Migrate from: | A long-distance migratory species — breeds in Siberia and northeastern Asia.

| Migrate to: | Migrates south to South and Southeast Asia, including India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, and southern China, during the winter months.

| Breeding season: | Occurs from June to August in northern latitudes. The nest is built close to the ground in dense undergrowth, made of moss and grass, and lined with finer materials. Typically 4–6 eggs are laid.

| Breed in: | Taiga and subalpine scrublands of Siberia, Mongolia, and northeastern China — preferring moist, bushy areas and forest edges near water.
