Least Concern

Length about 32–34 cm; weight ~200–250 g. A medium-sized dove with pale grey-brown body, reddish collar on the nape, and pale underparts. The tail is long and pointed.

Resident across South and Southeast Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and parts of Myanmar.

Non-migratory; may make local seasonal movements depending on food availability and water sources.

February to August in India, peaking during pre-monsoon and monsoon months. Courtship includes cooing, bowing, and mutual preening.

Builds a simple stick nest in trees, shrubs, or building ledges. Clutch size is 2 eggs, incubated by both parents. Both parents feed the chicks.

Prefers open woodlands, scrublands, farmlands, villages, and urban gardens. Often seen near water sources and agricultural fields.

Feeds mainly on seeds, grains, and small fruits. Occasionally consumes small insects or invertebrates. Forages on the ground in pairs or small flocks.
