| Approximate size(adult): | Length about 33–37 cm including the long tail; weight 55–65 g. A medium-sized parakeet with a slender build. The male has a rich plum-colored head, bluish nape, and green body, while the female has a duller bluish-grey head. The tail is long and tapering, with bluish tips.

| Resident/ Migrate from: | Resident species, widely distributed across the Indian subcontinent and parts of Sri Lanka. Shows local seasonal movements depending on food availability.
