Length about 23–27 cm; wingspan ~50–63 cm; weight ~100–160 g. Medium-sized plover with short neck, long legs, and compact body. Breeding males have black underparts with golden-spotted upperparts; non-breeding and females are mottled brown and gold.
Resident/ Migrate from:
Breeds in Arctic Siberia; migratory species.
Migrate to:
Winters across Southeast Asia, Australasia, and Pacific islands, traveling thousands of kilometers during migration.
Breeding season:
May to July in the Arctic tundra. Males display aerial and ground courtship to attract females.
Breed in:
Nests on the ground in tundra habitats, forming shallow scrapes lined with lichens and moss. Clutch size is usually 3–4 eggs. Both parents incubate and feed the chicks.
