| Approximate size(adult): | Length about 23–27 cm; wingspan ~50–63 cm; weight ~100–160 g. Medium-sized plover with short neck, long legs, and compact body. Breeding males have black underparts with golden-spotted upperparts; non-breeding and females are mottled brown and gold. |

| Breed in: | Nests on the ground in tundra habitats, forming shallow scrapes lined with lichens and moss. Clutch size is usually 3–4 eggs. Both parents incubate and feed the chicks. |
