| Approximate size(adult): | A small, vividly colored sunbird measuring 12–15 cm in length, including its long, slender tail. The male has a bright crimson back and breast, yellow underparts, blue crown, and violet-blue tail, while the female is mostly olive-green above and yellowish below.

| Resident/ Migrate from: | Found in the Himalayan foothills, Northeast India, Myanmar, southern China, and parts of Southeast Asia. Populations in higher altitudes are altitudinal migrants, descending to lower elevations in winter.

| Migrate to: | During the non-breeding season, they move to lower forested hills and foothills across India, Bhutan, and northern Southeast Asia, generally below 1000 m elevation.

| Breeding season: | Breeds from April to July, building a pendulous, pear-shaped nest made of moss, plant fibers, and cobwebs, usually suspended from a branch or bamboo clump.

| Breed in: | Found breeding in montane forests, rhododendron thickets, and oak forests between 1500–3000 m elevation.

| Habitat: | Occupies temperate and subtropical forests, forest edges, and flower-rich shrubby slopes. Often observed feeding on flowers along forest clearings and paths.

| Diet: | Primarily nectarivorous, feeding on nectar from flowering trees and shrubs such as rhododendrons and bottlebrush. Also consumes small insects and spiders, especially during breeding to feed chicks.
