| Approximate size(adult): | Medium-sized, slender harrier measuring 43–47 cm in length with a wingspan of 100–120 cm. Males are pale gray with black wing tips; females and juveniles are brown above with streaked underparts and a distinct white rump.

| Resident/ Migrate from: | A long-distance migrant that breeds across Europe, North Africa, and western to central Asia.

| Migrate to: | Winters in Africa and South Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, and parts of the Middle East. Common winter visitor to open grasslands and agricultural fields in India.

| Breeding season: | Breeds from May to August. Nests are built on the ground in tall grass or cereal crops; clutch usually contains 3–5 eggs.
