| Approximate size(adult): | A medium-sized lark about 16–18 cm in length. Brownish and heavily streaked above with a distinct crest and stout bill; underparts are pale with streaking on the breast.

| Breeding season: | Breeds mainly from February to September, with nesting activity often linked to the monsoon. The nest is a shallow ground cup lined with grass, hidden under vegetation. Clutch size usually 2–4 eggs.
