| Approximate size(adult): | Length about 25–27 cm; weight ~50–70 g. A striking passerine with bright golden-yellow plumage, black wings and tail, and a black eye stripe. Females are duller with greenish-yellow upperparts.

| Resident/ Migrate from: | Resident and partially migratory across the Indian subcontinent, particularly northern and central India. Northern populations migrate southward during winter.
