Breeds in temperate and montane forests of the Himalayas, northern India, Central Asia, and parts of Eastern Europe

Winters in peninsular India, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia

Typically from May to July in breeding range

Builds a domed nest with a side entrance made of moss, grass, and rootlets; placed on or near the ground in forest undergrowth; clutch size usually 4–6 eggs

Breeds in montane mixed and coniferous forests with dense undergrowth; during winter occupies lowland forests, gardens, groves, and wooded scrub

Insectivorous; feeds mainly on small insects, spiders, and larvae, gleaned actively from foliage and twigs; occasionally captures flying insects mid-air
