Least Concern

Medium-sized dove, about 30–33 cm in length with a wingspan of 47–55 cm. Pale grayish-buff overall with a distinctive narrow black collar on the back of the neck and a square-tipped tail with white edges.

Largely resident, though some northern populations may show limited local movements.

Mostly sedentary; dispersive movements rather than long-distance migrations.

Typically February to October in India; may breed year-round in favorable conditions.

Builds a loose platform nest of twigs in trees, shrubs, buildings, or even utility poles; may raise multiple broods annually.

Occupies open country, farmlands, villages, and urban areas; commonly found near human settlements and cultivated fields.

Feeds mainly on grains, seeds, and small fruits; occasionally takes small invertebrates.
