| Approximate size(adult): | Length about 13–15 cm; weight ~15–20 g. A small, active bird with a glossy black head, throat, and neck; white cheeks; grey upperparts; and whitish underparts with a broad black belly stripe.

| Resident/ Migrate from: | Resident species found across the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia; generally non-migratory, though it may move locally depending on food availability.

| Migrate to: | Non-migratory; remains within its range throughout the year. Some local altitudinal movements occur in hilly regions.

| Breeding season: | February to June, coinciding with warmer months and insect abundance. Pairs are monogamous during the breeding period.
