Bonelli's eagle

During our Saswad tour in September, we spotted four pairs of Bonelli's eagles on the hilltop where people often photograph Striolated Buntings. These two individuals were perched on a high extension electric tower, a spot where most raptors typically sit. Unfortunately, they were too far away to capture clear pictures, no matter how close we tried to approach. After a few minutes, they flew away. Since eagles generally fly slowly, it’s usually possible to get a few flight shots, but the challenge sometimes lies in the direction of the sunlight.
Bannerghatta Hilltop,Karnataka
During October and November, those of us who live in Bangalore often hear about Bonelli’s eagles being present in the Bannerghatta hilltop area. I never had the chance to observe them as the exact location was not shared. This year, I learned that they perch around the eucalyptus forest behind the hilltop temple area after 10 a.m., when the sun starts getting harsh. On that day, we were about to return from the Bannerghatta hilltop after 10 a.m. when we noticed all the raptor activity beginning. Among them were Booted Eagles (white morph), Greater Spotted Eagles, and Shikras. Suddenly, we saw two Bonelli’s eagles appear and start playing around. At first, I didn’t realize they were Bonelli’s eagles. A few seconds later, when they both perched on a nearby tree, I was stunned by what I had just witnessed—two majestic Bonelli’s eagles right in front of me. I started taking pictures and videos and managed to capture some moments. Unfortunately, due to some overly excited birders with me who tried to approach the birds too closely, both eagles flew away. Otherwise, I could have taken more beautiful pictures. The pair seemed to be engaged in courtship activities and were possibly preparing to start nesting.
