Least Concern

Length about 13–14 cm; weight around 8–12 g. A small, active warbler with a greyish upper body, rufous flanks, and whitish underparts. It has a short, rounded tail often held upright, and a distinctive harsh chattering call.

Resident species widely distributed across the Indian subcontinent and Sri Lanka. It is non-migratory, though it may move locally depending on habitat and rainfall.

Non-migratory; remains within its local range year-round.

Mainly March to September in India, peaking during the monsoon when vegetation is dense. Known for its conspicuous courtship displays and duet calls between pairs.

Builds a pouch-like nest made of grass and cobwebs, usually suspended among tall grass or low shrubs. Lays 3–5 eggs, incubated mainly by the female. Both parents feed the chicks.

Common in grasslands, scrublands, gardens, agricultural fields, and open woodlands. Adapts well to human-modified landscapes and is often seen near villages and roadsides.

Feeds mainly on insects, small caterpillars, beetles, and spiders. Actively forages in low vegetation, flicking its tail and making sharp calls while searching for prey.
