| Approximate size(adult): | A medium-large sandpiper measuring 25–27 cm in length with a wingspan of 52–60 cm. Breeding plumage is reddish-brown with dark streaks, while non-breeding plumage is pale grey above and white below. |
| Resident/ Migrate from: | Breeds in Arctic Siberia, especially in tundra near coastal wetlands. Northern populations are fully migratory. |
| Migrate to: | Winters along coastal South and Southeast Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, and northern Australia, often in large flocks on mudflats and estuaries. |
| Breeding season: | Breeds during the Arctic summer (June–August). Nests are shallow scrapes on the ground, often lined with moss and grass. Clutch size is typically 3–4 eggs. |
| Breed in: | Breeds in tundra wetlands and mossy tundra near water bodies. Prefers areas with low vegetation for nesting. |
| Habitat: | During migration and winter, occupies coastal mudflats, estuaries, sandy beaches, and lagoons. Often found in large mixed-species flocks. |
